Save the date for the 50-Year ESL Anniversary Celebration at Saint Louis University, to be held Friday October 4th in the Center for Global Citizenship Auditorium.
The ESL Program at Saint Louis University is hosting two distinguished speakers and extending an open invitation colleagues and students in the area interested in meeting them and hearing them speak.
There will be two presentations by international speakers with receptions and meet and greet times before and afterwards:
10:00 to 11:00 Dr. Jun Liu “From Global Competence to Global Citizenship”
Jun Liu is Associate Provost for International Initiatives, Senior International Officer, and Professor of Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University. Dr. Liu has served in multiple roles as an international educator and leader in the areas of intercultural communication and second language acquisition. He has published more than 80 papers and 10 books in the field of language education and has given more than 80 plenary and invited speeches in more than 30 countries since 2000. Brunch afterwards
3:00 – 4:00 Dr. Bill VanPatten “Theory and Research Informed Language Teaching: Five Principles for Communicative Language Teaching”
Bill VanPatten is Professor of Spanish and Second Language Studies at Michigan State University, where he is also affiliate faculty member in Cognitive Science and Director of Basic Language Instruction in Spanish and French. He is an international scholar in the fields of second language acquisition theory and research, as well as methods for foreign language teaching, and is a frequent invited speaker in the U.S. and abroad.
