Are you interested in tutoring Syrian refugees and other individuals affected by conflict? Do you have two hours a week to spare? Apply to become a Paper Airplanes English tutor! Paper Airplanes provides free, one-on-one virtual language and skills instruction to people affected by conflict. Our goal is to help our students learn critical languages and marketable skills for their pursuit of higher education and employment. We currently have five programs: English, Turkish, Youth Exchange, Women in Tech (computer coding), and Journalism.
As a volunteer English tutor, you will be matched with a young adult affected by conflict, assisting them using our guided curriculum. No prior tutoring experience or Arabic language skills required, although both are appreciated.
The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week, which includes prep time. You will meet with your student once per week for a 1.5 hour session via Skype. We provide the curriculum, but you will need to do some basic lesson planning to match the curriculum to your student’s needs.
The Spring 2020 term will run from January 12th until May 2nd. We will begin reviewing applications in November 2019 and will be in contact with applicants at this time.
All new tutors will need to complete a 3-4 hour new tutor training. The training will open approximately one month before the start of the semester.
