UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-COLUMBIA - POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant Professor of Professional Practice

Position: Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum. Full-time, 12-month appointment.

Reporting: The appointee will report to the chair of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum (LTC). Learning, Teaching and Curriculum, a nationally ranked program, currently is comprised of 28 tenure-track and tenured faculty members, and over 100 doctoral students.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the Project Coordinator/Instructor (1.0 FTE). The person will be responsible for the general implementation and instruction of English Language Learners in Missouri (ELL-MO). This person's duties will include identifying qualified candidates for participation in the project, ensuring English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Certification courses are effectively taught to enrolled participants, visiting project participants in their classrooms, working closely with consortium partners, and co-authoring reports with the Project Director and Project Evaluator.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have an earned Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), or a related area; Ph.D. in TESOL or closely related field highly desirable; will consider ABD; strong knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methods; an informed, broad conception of ESOL, including second language acquisition theories, linguistics, instructional methods, assessment, and socio-cultural perspectives; and potential to achieve state and national visibility through a clearly defined research agenda. Candidates will have successful teaching experience of at least three years, and a strong desire to collaborate with colleagues and K-12 teachers. Interest in working with diverse populations and supporting field-based initiatives is encouraged.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a benefit-eligible grant-funded position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointment begins Fall Semester, 2007.
