FROM THE PAST BOARD PRESIDENT

Board Seeks New Members

By Phyllis Mithen

It has been a pleasure as well as a challenging task to serve another cycle as President of MidTESOL and to get to know more of our wonderful, dedicated, creative members. The first year was the hardest because it involved planning the conference. The second year, serving as President, I found to be an interesting mix of challenges. I say this for the information of any prospective Board Members who may be willing to run for First Vice President. A person in this position serves as a convener of consultations and a disseminator of information, a catalyst for new ideas and ways of doing things. It is sometimes necessary first to go back to our constitution and our minutes of past meetings to get our bearings and to be sure we are doing things the way we agreed we would and carrying our past decisions.

Then we can also see if there need to be any changes. Our access to E-mail and our wonderful web site have made all of these tasks much easier. Each member of the Board has an essential task to do that when put all together makes us serve our membership and be an effective affiliate of TESOL.
