1999 MidTESOL Award Winners
By Cheryl Eason
Peggy Anderson, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas, and
the Perry, Iowa, public school system, were thanked for their dedicated
service to MidTESOL and the profession of teaching English to speakers
of other languages through the years with the Pat-on-the-Back
Awards for 1999. Peggy most recently has served on the MidTESOL
executive board as its historian. She has also served as MidTESOL president,
was the plenary speaker at the MidTESOL 1997 Conference in Grand Island,
Nebraska, and was associate chair for the Orlando TESOL Conference. Mary
served on the MidTESOL executive board for many a year as its publishers'
liaison. Both Peggy and Mary are described by those who have worked with
them as people who consistently do "above and beyond" what is
asked or expected of them.
Peggy and Mary, as Pat-on-the-Back award
winners, received engraved plaques and lifetime memberships in MidTESOL.
MidTESOL also awarded four Travel Awards
to presenters at the 1999 Conference in Iowa City. Recipients were Julie
Brogno, Central Missouri State University, whose presentation was
entitled International English and English Language Teaching; Chun
Hu, University of Missouri at Kansas City, who presented From the
Theories of Second Language Learning to Teaching Practice; Korakote

The Travel Award winners had their registration
fee waived and received $100 to help them cover their costs of attending
