MidTESOL Matters
Spring 2001 |
A Message from the Editors
By Karen Schwelle and LuAnn Sorenson
Greetings! We would like to introduce
ourselves as the new co-editors of MidTESOL Matters.
Karen has been a full-time ESL instructor
in Washington University's ESL Program since 1998. She has studied in Austria,
worked in Germany, and has been teaching since 1994. She taught German at Indiana
University at Bloomington; EFL at a vocational/college preparatory high school
in Magdeburg, Germany; and ESL at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Despite living in St. Louis, Karen is
a die-hard fan of Chicago Cubs baseball. She also enjoys attending classical
music concerts and recitals.
LuAnn is also a full-time ESL instructor
at Washington University, having joined the faculty in 2000. She has studied
in Tromsø, Norway at the world's northernmost university and worked in Finland.
She has been a language instructor since 1992 and has taught Norwegian at the
University of Wisconsin at Madison; EFL at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland;
and ESL at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the University of Iowa.
When not teaching, LuAnn can be found
taking walks with her Dalmatian. She also enjoys foreign films. LuAnn and Karen
both are dedicated fans of "The X-Files," so you know where to look
for the latest in X-Files-related materials development.
As editors of MidTESOL Matters
we hope to gather and pass along the news that is most useful to you. Because
MidTESOLers serve a variety of ESL populations and work in a variety of educational
settings, you can maximize MidTESOL Matters' relevance to your situation
by contributing. Book reviews, teaching tips, post-conference write-ups, web
site recommendations, and full-length articles are always welcome. We look forward
to getting to know fellow MidTESOLers through our duties, and we welcome your
comments and suggestions.
A final reminder: To help inform your
ESL and non-ESL colleagues about the activities of ESL professionals in our
part of the country, please post MidTESOL Matters in your workplace;
spread the word about MidTESOL and TESOL 2001 in faculty and district meetings;
and encourage administrators to help you and your colleagues attend TESOL 2001.
We hope to see you there!
