While the pre-conference workshop and the plenary session will focus on the theme of ESL & Mainstream Classroom Teachers Talking, presentations are invited and encouraged on all aspects of teaching English to speakers of other languages in the public schools, community college and universities, as well as adult and continuing education. On January 8th of this year, President George W. Bush signed into law a reauthorization of the Federal legislation which supports education in the U.S. The formal name of this legislation is "The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001." One sub-section of this legislation is Title III subtitled "Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students." Education officials in State Education Agencies (SEA's) across the nation are now in the process of making decisions about how Title III will be administered in each state.

DIRECTIONS:

Iowa State University is located in Ames, IA, which is approximately 25 miles north of Des Moines on Interstate 35. If you fly into Des Moines, you should consider renting a car as there is no regular shuttle service between Des Moines and Ames.
